Via Lingamish, I was directed to MyBibleVersion.com, a site that helps you pick a Bible version most suited to a particular task you have in mind. 28 English versions of the Bible are listed. There are presets for Public Reading, Personal Study, Easy Reading, Most Literal, and Dynamic or Functional. One really should, however, click on the "Show Detailed Options" box, and choose the specific characteristics desired. From playing around with it a bit, I would say it does a very fine job of pointing you to the translation you want.
